STATUS: In progress
OPPOSITION: Information is Power
BACKGROUND: The $250 million White Oak Energy Center is located near Carlock, Illinois. The project consists of 100 turbines, 89 located in McLean County and 11 located in Woodford County. The developer of the project is White Oak Wind Energy, LLC, which is a subsidiary of Invenergy. These turbines will generate 150 megawatts of energy, which is enough energy to provide power to 40,000 houses.
The project faced opposition from Information is Power, which is a group of local landowners opposed to the project. The group filed lawsuit in McLean County arguing the McLean County Zoning Board did not give them opportunity to express their concerns during hearings on the special-use permit for the project. A settlement was reached in fall 2008.
In August 2010, construction began on the project.
