TXU Martin Lake 4, TX

STATUS: Canceled

TYPE: Coal

OPPOSITION: Sierra Club, Environmental Defense Fund, Natural Resource Defense Council

PROSPECTS: Unlikely

BACKGROUND:  In April 2006, the developer announced it intended to construct a fourth 800 megawatt coal unit at its Martin Lake facility in Rusk County, Texas.  This project was cancelled in February 2007 as part of an agreement between the developer’s new owner and environmental groups who opposed construction. In return, the environmentalists agreed to drop legal challenges against three other Texas coal plants, among other things.
