Sempra Energy Gerlach Plant, NV

STATUS: Canceled

TYPE: Coal

OPPOSITION: Nevada Clean Energy Campaign

PROSPECTS: Unlikely

BACKGROUND: In 2004, the developer proposed construction of a $2 billon, 1,450 megawatt coal-fired power plant in Gerlach, Nevada. It immediately attracted fierce local opposition from local governments, Indian tribes and citizen groups concerned about the environmental impact of its development and operation and the disruption to local residents.  The developer cancelled the project in 2006 without applying for any permits.
