OPPOSITION: Neighboring government and residents (Hellam Township)
BACKGROUND: In 2004, Penn-Mar Ethanol attempted to construct an ethanol producing plant in Conoy Township, Pennsylvania. Neighboring Hellam Township sent a letter to the Conoy Township Board of Supervisors objecting to the ethanol plant. Hellam Township's objections included environmental risks to the surrounding area and the "risk of causing the beautiful area surrounding the Susquehanna River to become an undesirable site."
In February 2005, Penn-Mar announced plans to cancel the project at the planned location relocate the project to Franklin County, Pennsylvania .
