PROSPECTS: Unlikely; prolonged delay
BACKGROUND: The Henniker Biomass proposal has been suspended after Laidlaw Energy Group withdrew its bid to build the 20-megawatt woodchip burning facility in Henniker. The company will instead focus on its proposed biomass power plant in Berlin, N.H. The town received Laidlaw's withdrawal letter one week before the company was scheduled to go back before the Henniker Zoning Board to address specific design and engineering questions.
The project was met with strong opposition from the environmental group REACH concerned about pollution output and valuation of surrounding properties. A representative from Laidlaw said the withdrawal was temporary and would eventually be good for the community.
