TYPE: Wind Project
OPPOSITION: Property Owners
BACKGROUND: In 2007, ACCIONA Energy, who acquired the project from EcoEnergy LLC, began construction on the 7,000 acre project which had been in development since 2006. The project was expected to cost $200 million. It was scheduled to go online in late 2008, however the project was delayed by litigation.
In 2007, a lawsuit filed by local property owners seeking to prevent the EcoGrove Wind LLC wind farm from being built was settled and dismissed. Information on the terms of the settlement were not available due to another lawsuit pending against several controversial zoning changes approved by the county related to the wind farms.
The completed EcoGrove Wind Farm was expected to create approximately 10 new permanent jobs and 125 construction jobs. Long-term lease agreements have been completed with more than 60 landowners or land trusts. The project was completed in the Summer of 2009.
