Cameron LNG Expansion, Hackberry, Louisiana

STATUS:  In progress with opposition

TYPE: Natural Gas

OPPOSITION:  Environmental groups

PROSPECT:  Likely

BACKGROUND:  Sempra Energy is seeking to expand the liquefied natural gas (LN) processing capacity at its recently constructed Cameron LNG facility in Hackberry, Louisiana. The expansion will add a fourth storage tank and increase total send-out rate for the terminal from 1.5 billion cubic feet per day (bcf/d) to 2.65 bcf/d. Environmental groups oppose the project due to its impact on the marine environment.

The expansion has been approved by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, but is not yet completed.
