STATUS: In progress with opposition
OPPOSITION: Crawford and Richland County residents
BACKGROUND: In August 2009, Black Fork Wind LLC submitted an application for a wind farm to be located in Richland and Crawford counties. The project, developed by Gary Energetics, includes 112 wind turbines. The turbines will generate 201.6 megawatts of energy. The Applicant filed an amended application on November 10, 2009. The Applicant had until June 15, 2010 to respond to Staff interrogatories. The Applicant requested a third extension to respond, which was objected to by the Board Staff.
On July 21, 2010 the Applicant filed notice of withdrawal/substitution of counsel and change of ownership/management for the project. The new Applicant for the project is Black Fork Wind Energy, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Element Power US, LLC. The public and adjudicatory hearings were continued indefinitely. On August 23, 2010, the Board approved the Applicant’s request to withdraw the application.
Local residents oppose the project. They have expressed concerns about the negative impact of wind farms in rural communities.
As of August 2010, the project was still awaiting state certification.
